Jesus said it and it fits today. The church has left its first love. (Rev. 2:4) Personal relationship with Christ has been changed to a pursuit of the culture, a struggle for relevance, an indulging of all felt needs. This makes church life complex and demanding. Like Martha of Bethany, we are so busy doing, that little time is left, to sit at Jesus’ feet.
Christian writers are recognizing this problem, as set forth in the following Market Analysis. The answer however, is not more programs or training. These add complexity where the need is simplicity. What if believers could just assemble to pray and sing and study God’s Word?
Could a church function without manifold committee meetings, service projects, performances?
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could be more like that first church in the book of Acts?
Yes, it would. And, this church was!
Doing Church is a true story of how one group of young people found it possible to “do church” simply and biblically. Without intending, they became a modern allegory of how Christ built His church.
